Nick Kroll Reveals Lady Gaga and Howard Stern as the Two Stars ‘Big Mouth’ Just Couldn’t Get

Big Mouth, Netflix’s hit animated series following a group of friends navigating puberty, is coming to an end after eight seasons, following a rare model where its characters actually grow up. “It is puberty and we really covered so much of what we set out to do and about this journey,” co-creator and star Nick Kroll told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Thursday of the decision to wrap up. “Most animated shows, they go on forever; people are frozen in whatever time they are in. Our show evolved and the kids evolved and they moved through time and they grew and they changed, and that was part of the joy of making the show.” Co-creator Andrew Goldberg echoed that after working for over a decade on Family Guy, where those characters all stayed the same age, “I kind of...

‘Harry Potter’ Stars Talk Universal Epic Universe’s Ministry of Magic and Thoughts on Upcoming Series

Three stars of the original Harry Potter films are open to being involved with the upcoming HBO series in different ways, they revealed while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at Universal Epic Universe’s grand opening celebration. Actors Warwick Davis — who played Professor Filius Flitwick in the films — and James and Oliver Phelps — who portrayed Fred and George Weasley, respectively — all participated in the opening of “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic” on Wednesday, celebrating the new theme park with other Hollywood names, NBCUniversal and Universal Destinations & Experiences executives. “It’s very special,” Davis said of the relationship between the parks and the films. “Normally a film is something you create and people watch it, it’ll be a success or not, and then it goes into the libraries and it’s kind of forgotten. But with attractions like we have at...

Michael Jackson Biopic Moonwalking to 22 Days of Additional Photography in June (Exclusive)

Lionsgate and producer Graham King have looked at the man in the mirror and decided he needs some work done. Michael, the in-flux Michael Jackson biopic, is prepping for a bulky 22-day set of additional photography to be held in June, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The not-insignificant shoot comes as King, the Jackson Estate and studio partners Lionsgate and Universal are still mulling how to move forward in light of a legal issue, with the movie most likely being split into two parts. The new shoot seems to indicate that headway is being made. Sources tell THR that while a script for a potential second film still needs to be finalized, the planned June shoot would be for the first film. While the term “reshoots” has been bandied about, in this case it’s less about reshooting what has already been shot but rather expand...

Will Smith Music Video Makes Union Deal With IATSE After Strike

Producers of a Will Smith music video have reached a deal with IATSE over a union contract after facing a picket line from dismissed workers. The shoot, which was taking place at Quixote’s West Hollywood studios, fired workers on Thursday night after they attempted to unionize the project, sources told The Hollywood Reporter. The workers responded by picketing the Breathe Entertainment production on Friday morning. Non-union crew members that had been brought in to replace the dismissed workers also joined the picket line. As of Friday afternoon, at least some members of the original crew had been allowed to return back to work on the shoot in a sign that the union and the production were collaborating. A few hours later, the union and the producers reached a deal allowing the 35-member crew to continue work under a contract that allowed for health...

Josh O’Connor Lights Up Cannes With ‘The Mastermind’ World Premiere

In the end, Josh O’Connor made it to Cannes. The La Chimera and Challengers actor was unable to make the Wednesday evening premiere of Oliver Hermanus’ The History of Sound, in which he stars alongside Paul Mescal, as he was still shooting in New York, working on Steven Spielberg’s new film. But O’Connor was given time away from the as-yet-untitled sci-fi project and caught a flight to Cannes Thursday night, meaning he was fresh and ready for Friday’s red carpet premiere of Kelly Reichardt‘s The Mastermind. Reichardt and O’Connor walked the carpet, joined by castmembers Alana Haim, John Magaro and Hope Davis. Others in attendance included Viola Davis, strolling along in a stunning yellow gown, with husband Julius Tennon; Elle Fanning, a day after her red carpet premiere for Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value; and Isabella Ferrari. How to Have Sex director Molly Manning Walker, who heads this year’s Un Certain Regard jury,...

Paris Court Finds Ringleader, Seven Others Guilty in 2016 Robbery of Kim Kardashian

A Paris court on Friday found the ringleader and seven other people guilty in the 2016 armed robbery of Kim Kardashian, but did not impose any additional time behind bars for their roles in what the U.S. celebrity described as “the most terrifying experience of my life.” The chief judge, David De Pas, said that the defendants’ ages — six are in their 60s and 70s — and their health issues weighed on the court’s decision to impose sentences that he said “aren’t very severe.” He said that the nine years between the robbery and the trial — long even by the standards of France’s famously deliberate legal system — were also taken into account in not imposing harsher sentences. The court acquitted two of the 10 defendants. Aomar Aït Khedache, 69, the ringleader, got the stiffest sentence, eight years...

Who Really Took the Iconic “Napalm Girl” Photo? Director of New Doc Addresses the Controversy (Exclusive)

As the lights came on at the Sundance premiere of the documentary The Stringer last January, there was no doubt for many viewers that one of the most important photos in the history of journalism — the Pulitzer Prize–winning 1972 snapshot titled The Terror of War — has been misattributed. In the months since, the controversy over who really took the devastating Vietnam War image better known as “Napalm Girl,” which put a heart-wrenching human face on the horrors of the conflict and helped galvanize the anti-war movement, has only grown, even though the film has not been released and no distributor has been announced. The photo was taken after a napalm attack in the South Vietnamese village of Trảng Bàn. There were a number of journalists, cameramen and photographers positioned on a road as a naked nine-year-old girl named Phan Thi...

Tom Cruise Wore These USA-Made Aviators in Cannes — Score Them on Sale With These Other Famous Frames

Tom Cruise has been known to sport Ray-Bans onscreen and off in both Top Gun films and Risky Business — but for the Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning premiere at Cannes, the superstar switched up his sun gear with a different pair of aviators. The 62-year-old actor sported American Optical’s Original Pilot sunglasses, a silhouette favored by military pilots and NASA astronauts, per the brand. (AO notes that they were the first-ever aviators designed specifically for the U.S. military in 1935.) Cruise wore the silver frame with True-Color gray lenses — which movie buffs may have also seen on Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver. The heritage brand’s iconic frames typically start at $200 — but you can score Ethan Hunt’s off-duty look for up to 20 percent off during the company’s summer sale right now. Available in gold, silver, matte silver or black frames, the American Optical...
