‘Stick’ Review: Owen Wilson’s Endearing Apple TV+ Golf Comedy Is Ideal Summer Comfort Viewing
Stick, Apple TV+’s new golf comedy starring Owen Wilson, does not come with the tagline “For fans of Shrinking and Ted Lasso.” It doesn’t need to: Between the cuddly yet poignant mood, the found-family ensemble, the focus on flawed but generally non-toxic male role models and the overall Dad TV vibe, there’s no mistaking who its target audience is meant to be.
But familiarity isn’t necessarily a drawback when it comes to comfort viewing, and certainly not for a rookie that can play the game nearly as well as the old pros. While not, at this point, quite as ambitious as its actual tagline (“Take a big swing”) might suggest, its assured tone, fat-free storytelling and, most especially, winning cast could give Stick everything it needs to develop into the platform’s next big crowd-pleaser.

‘Andor’ Season 2 Effects Team Did a Wild Number of Things For Real
“Keep it grounded, keep it real” has always been Andor creator Tony Gilroy’s mandate to his effects team. For the acclaimed Disney+ Star Wars drama’s second season, Gilroy’s marching order meant building a massive “flying” TIE fighter from the ground up, figuring out a fresh way to film a Speeder Bike chase, tweaking the iconic Stormtrooper laser blasts, and solving countless creative challenges (there were 4,140 effects shots).
Below, Andor VFX supervisor Mohen Leo (who led the show’s digital effects team) and SFX Supervisor Luke Murphy (who tackled the show’s practical effects) discuss pulling off the season’s biggest visuals — as well as some of the smallest, which often turned out to be the trickiest.
What was the hardest effect to pull off in season two?
MOHEN LEO The most ambitious sequence was the TIE Avenger escape . That was in preparation...

Harvey Weinstein Survivors Speak Out to Support Three Women Testifying Against Him In New Trial
A group of women who say they are fellow survivors of abuse by Harvey Weinstein issued a statement Thursday in support of the three accusers who have taken the stand as part of his criminal retrial and weighed in on what they see as a changed environment.
“I am torn between awe and despair for the women who are re-testifying in today’s trial. Awe at their grace and strength to put themselves through this once again, on behalf of all of us survivors. Despair that the legal system is still so biased towards perpetrators, and flawed towards survivors,” said Rowena Chiu, one of the members of the group and a former assistant to Weinstein.
Weinstein is currently on trial on two charges of criminal sexual act in the first degree and one count of third-degree rape. The charges are...
PragerU’s Plan to Red Pill Our Kids
When Dennis Prager enters the small conference room at his radio station in Los Angeles, he seems to fill up the entire space.
He’s 6-foot-4 and has a deep, commanding voice that has gained him millions of listeners, even as it retains a slight, old-world Brooklyn accent. It’s early fall, and he’s wearing a blue striped shirt, a blue tie and dark slacks. He chooses to sit at the head of the table, in front of a glass display case containing awards. This would end up being one of his last interviews before an injury would leave him hospitalized for months, just as his media empire has become more influential than ever and ready to shape the minds of a new generation of potential Republican voters.
Prager, 76, has just finished taping an episode of the nationally...

The Nine-Minute Bromance Video That Launched a $6 Billion AI Mystery
It’s “the coolest piece of technology the world has ever seen.” It’s going to “completely reimagine what it means to use a computer.” It’s the “beginning of the greatest technological revolution in our lifetimes.”
It’s a floor wax and a dessert topping.
In one of the more head-scratching branding exercises in recent Silicon Valley history, OpenAI on Thursday dropped a nine-minute video of CEO Sam Altman and former Apple designer Jony Ive strolling the streets of San Francisco, settling onto a couple of stools in a macchiato bar, and chatting amiably — one might even say bromantically — about how much they admire one another.
Also, how the new mystery gizmo they’re building together — whatever the hell it might be — will change the course of human evolution.
Not surprisingly, the internet had a field day. “How is this not satire?” one...
